Liam Hicks
Liam Hicks Late addition to lineup Saturday
Sat, Apr 5, 2025, 4:20 PM
Hicks has been added to Miami's lineup ahead of Saturday's game against Atlanta.
Analysis: Hicks was originally scheduled for a day out of the starting lineup, but he's since been added, as Nick Fortes was scratched due to neck stiffness. This will be Hicks' third straight start at catcher and his fourth over the Marlins' past five games.
Nick Fortes
Nick Fortes Scratched from lineup Saturday
Sat, Apr 5, 2025, 4:16 PM
Fortes was removed from Saturday's lineup against Atlanta due to neck stiffness, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Fortes was in Miami's original lineup for what would have been his first start since Tuesday. However, he was later removed due to the neck issue. Liam Hicks is starting behind the plate and batting ninth Saturday in Fortes' stead.
Jonah Bride
Jonah Bride Not starting Saturday
Sat, Apr 5, 2025, 3:12 PM
Bride isn't in the Marlins' lineup for Saturday's matchup against Atlanta.
Analysis: Bride will begin on the bench for the second time in Miami's past three games. Prior to that stretch, he started in each of the team's first six contests. It's been a rough go for Bride so far, as he's gone just 2-for-26 at the plate with a 29 percent strikeout rate. Eric Wagaman is starting at DH on Saturday with Bride out of the lineup.
Max Meyer
Max Meyer Fans eight in quality start
Fri, Apr 4, 2025, 10:57 PM
Meyer (0-1) was handed the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks in six innings Friday against Atlanta. He struck out eight.
Analysis: Meyer kept Atlanta in check during his time on the mound, fanning eight and turning in a quality start before the Miami bullpen allowed seven runs. The third inning proved to be the most damaging for Meyer, who gave up a Marcell Ozuna two-run double and Austin Riley RBI single in the frame. The 2020 No. 3 overall pick has flashed some upside out of the gates, having yielded just four earned runs with 15 strikeouts over 11.2 frames, but Meyer would be tough to trust in mixed fantasy leagues in his next projected start on the road against the Mets.
Jesus Tinoco
Jesus Tinoco Throws off mound
Fri, Apr 4, 2025, 4:28 PM
Tinoco (back) threw a bullpen session Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: A back strain sent Tinoco to the injured list Sunday, but he is now back to throwing off a mound just a few days later. His progress is a good sign that he may be able to return when eligible April 12, though the Marlins haven't committed to that date just yet.
Derek Hill
Derek Hill Still sitting Friday
Fri, Apr 4, 2025, 2:43 PM
Hill (back) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: It'll be the third straight absence due to back tightness for Hill, who also had extra time to rest up since the Marlins had a team day off Thursday. The 29-year-old had a .770 OPS while starting the first five games of the season, but a trip to the injured list could be in store if he's expected to miss much more time.
Griffin Conine
Griffin Conine Three-hit effort Wednesday
Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 12:16 PM
Conine went 3-for-6 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's extra-innings loss to the Mets.
Analysis: The 27-year-old has has seen action in seven straight games (five starts) to begin the season with Jesus Sanchez (oblique) unavailable, and Conine has responded by batting .286 (6-for-21) with a solo home run and three additional runs scored. Conine and Kyle Stowers are likely battling for one starting corner outfield spot once Sanchez gets healthy, and as yet neither has a clear advantage -- while Conine has made more consistent contact, Stowers has drawn six walks and boasts a .462 OBP in his six appearances.
Xavier Edwards
Xavier Edwards Four hits against Mets
Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 12:12 PM
Edwards went 4-for-6 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's extra-inning loss to the Mets.
Analysis: The shortstop rolled into the game having gone 4-for-22 (.182) through his first six starts of the season, but Edwards doubled both his hit and steal totals with Wednesday's performance. Base knocks figure to come in bunches for the 25-year-old after he slashed .328/.397/.423 over 303 plate appearances in a breakout 2024, but even as Miami's everyday leadoff hitter, his fantasy value remains capped due to his lack of power and lack of a reliable supporting cast.
Calvin Faucher
Calvin Faucher Charged with blown save Wednesday
Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 12:08 PM
Faucher coughed up three runs on three hits in an inning of relief during Wednesday's extra-innings loss to the Mets.
Analysis: The right-hander got the call in the eighth inning with the Marlins protecting a 4-1 lead, but Faucher served up a three-run blast to Pete Alonso to get charged with his first blown save of 2025. The usage alone suggests he's fallen behind Anthony Bender in the pecking order for closing duties, but the bullpen picture for Miami remains cloudy, especially with Jesus Tinoco (back) on the shelf. Over his first three appearances and three innings, Faucher has a 2:3 K:BB to go along with a 9.00 ERA.
Edward Cabrera
Edward Cabrera Works three frames in rehab start
Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 10:38 AM
Cabrera (finger) struck out four batters and allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks across three innings Tuesday in a rehab start with Triple-A Jacksonville.
Analysis: Cabrera served up a solo home run in the second inning but was otherwise sharp over his three frames while spotting 27 of his 46 pitches for strikes. He'll likely get stretched out over one or two more rehab starts before returning from the 15-day injured list around mid-April.
Connor Gillispie
Connor Gillispie Five strong innings against Mets
Wed, Apr 2, 2025, 8:54 PM
Gillispie didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Mets after allowing one run on four hits and no walks in five innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: Facing a vaunted Mets lineup, Gillispie produced better results than when he gave up four runs in five frames during his first start of the year in a perhaps softer matchup against Pittsburgh. Other than a Pete Alonso double in the first inning to drive in a run, it was rather smooth sailing for Gillispie. The 27-year-old right-hander threw just 73 pitches Wednesday, so he'll search for more length in his next scheduled start against the Mets once again early next week, this time on the road.
Dane Myers
Dane Myers Sitting after four straight starts
Wed, Apr 2, 2025, 2:19 PM
Myers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: Myers will hit the bench after he had started each of the last four contests while going 5-for-14 with two doubles, one walk, two runs and one RBI. Three of those starts came while the opposition sent lefties to the mound, and the other start came while Derek Hill was tending to a tight back. Unless Hill's back issue forces him to the injured list, Myers looks as though he'll be limited mostly to a short-side platoon role.
Jonah Bride
Jonah Bride Getting first day off
Wed, Apr 2, 2025, 2:14 PM
Bride is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: Bride will get his first day off of the season after he hit .100 while drawing five walks over the Marlins' first six games. He'll cede his spot in the lineup to Eric Wagaman, who will serve as Miami's designated hitter.
Nick Fortes
Nick Fortes Resting Wednesday
Wed, Apr 2, 2025, 2:11 PM
Fortes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: Fortes will get a breather as the Marlins close out their series versus the Mets with a late-afternoon game. Liam Hicks will check in for Fortes behind the plate and bat seventh.
Freddy Tarnok
Freddy Tarnok Healthy for start of Triple-A season
Wed, Apr 2, 2025, 2:08 PM
Tarnok (ankle) struck out two batters and gave up one unearned run on one hit and no walks over three innings Sunday for Triple-A Jacksonville in its 2-1 extra-inning win over Nashville.
Analysis: Tarnok attended big-league camp with the Marlins as a non-roster invitee, but he saw his longshot bid for the Opening Day roster come to an end after spraining his left ankle early in camp. The right-hander had sufficient time to heal up from the injury and kept ramped up ahead of the minor-league season, allowing him to claim a spot in the Jacksonville rotation.
Derek Hill
Derek Hill Out again with back tightness
Wed, Apr 2, 2025, 1:09 PM
Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said that Hill remains out of the lineup Wednesday against the Mets due to back tightness, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Analysis: Hill started the first five games of the season but has now sat out two straight with an achy back. He will be available to pinch hit Wednesday and would seem to have a good chance to return to the lineup Friday in Atlanta following the Marlins' off day Thursday. Javier Sanoja is in center field for Miami for Wednesday's series finale.
Kyle Stowers
Kyle Stowers Belts first homer of 2025
Wed, Apr 2, 2025, 10:21 AM
Stowers went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Mets.
Analysis: The 27-year-old outfielder took Kodai Senga deep in the first inning, giving Stowers his first long ball of the season. After a shaky spring at the plate, Stowers has had a productive first week of the regular season, batting .313 (5-for-16) with four RBI and a steal while starting four of Miami's first six games.
Anthony Bender
Anthony Bender Notches first save
Tue, Apr 1, 2025, 9:56 PM
Bender retired the only two batters he faced to earn a save against the Mets on Tuesday.
Analysis: Bender entered the game with two runners on base and needed just four pitches to close out the 4-2 win. Anthony Veneziano originally began the ninth inning before getting into trouble. Bender is the first Marlin to record a save this season, and the bullpen situation seems pretty fluid. He's turned in 2.2 scoreless innings in three appearances.
Sandy Alcantara
Sandy Alcantara Picks up victory
Tue, Apr 1, 2025, 9:36 PM
Alcantara (1-0) allowed two runs on three hits over five innings Tuesday, striking out four and earning a win over the Mets.
Analysis: Alcantara coughed up a solo shot to Brandon Nimmo in the second inning and an RBI single to Francisco Lindor in the third. Alcantara tossed 91 pitches against the Pirates on Opening Day but was limited to just 70 pitches (43 strikes) Tuesday against the Mets. Through two starts, he's produced a 3.72 ERA with an 11:4 K:BB over 9.2 innings. Alcantara's next start is projected to be a rematch with the Mets in New York next week.
Derek Hill
Derek Hill Absent from lineup
Tue, Apr 1, 2025, 2:47 PM
Hill is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Mets.
Analysis: Hill was hit by a pitch in Monday's game, but he remained in that contest, so it would appear this is just a routine day off. Dane Myers will draw the start in center field for the Marlins.
